A construction worker has died following a workplace accident at a new housing development in West Bergholt, Essex. The incident occurred on Monday, April 7, 2025, at a site managed by Rose Builders, a well-known regional construction firm.
The worker, employed as an agency contractor, was fatally injured while working on the project, which involves the construction of a collection of detached family homes near Colchester.
In a statement, Rose Builders expressed their deep sorrow over the tragedy:
“We confirm that an incident took place on one of our construction sites in West Bergholt on 7 April 2025, which tragically resulted in fatal injuries to an agency worker.
We are deeply shocked and saddened by what has happened and are cooperating fully with the Police and Health and Safety Executive.
The thoughts of everyone at Rose are with his wife and family. We will look to support them as best we can at this sad and difficult time.”
Both Essex Police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident. Workplace fatalities in the construction industry remain a serious concern, with safety regulations continually under scrutiny to prevent such incidents.
Local authorities and industry professionals will be monitoring the findings of the investigation closely to determine whether further safety measures need to be implemented at similar sites.
This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the inherent risks within the construction sector and highlights the importance of stringent safety protocols to protect workers on-site.
