Worker killed after telehandler topples over

Scott Bradley, 44, tragically lost his life on 11 May 2022 after a telehandler he was operating slid down an embankment and overturned at a construction site on Stepford Road.
Employed by Merchant Homes Partnership Limited, Bradley was using the vehicle to transport scaffolding behind partially constructed houses when the accident occurred thebuilder has been fined £160,000 after .
Despite swift response from his colleagues and emergency services, Bradley suffered fatal crush injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, investigations by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Police Scotland revealed that Merchant Homes Partnership Limited, the site’s principal contractor, had not conducted a risk assessment for the traffic route where the telehandler was being used.
HSE inspector James Caren stated, “This was a tragic incident, and our thoughts remain with Mr. Bradley’s friends and family. Our investigation showed that Merchant Homes Partnership Limited failed to assess the risks and implement necessary measures to ensure the route was safe for the telehandler’s operation. Unfortunately, the vehicle’s wheels went over the route’s edge while being reversed, leading to the fatal overturn.”
Merchant Homes Partnership Limited, a Glasgow-based company, pleaded guilty to health and safety violations and received a £160,000 fine at Glasgow Sheriff Court. The company, which had an annual turnover of £22 million, entered liquidation in December 2023.
