Suspended prison sentence for unsafe gas work

An unregistered gas installer was given a suspended prison sentence for carrying out unsafe gas work and using a fraudulent Gas Safe registration.
Norwich Crown Court heard how James Gotts carried out gas work at five premises in the Norwich area between July 2013 and January 2014. At the time the gas work were carried out Gotts was working as a chef at a public house. Work he did at three of the premises was considered “at risk” or “immediately dangerous” by Gas Safe Register.
James Gotts, 39, of Surlingham Road, Bramerton, Norfolk was sentenced to six months imprisonment after pleading guilty to an offence under Section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. He was sentenced to a further six months in prison after pleading guilty to an offence under Regulation 3(3) of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998. Both jail terms were suspended for 18 months. He was given 180 hours community service and ordered to pay costs of £1092.
