Bam contractor dies on Scottish power site

A construction worker, working for BAM Nuttall has died after sustaining injuries at an electricity substation in Moray, Scotland on Friday.
Health and safety inspectors are now investigating the circumstances of the incident, which occurred in Blackhillock substation at around 8.50am on Friday 28 October.
Police and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating the circumstances of the death at the scene.
BAM Nuttall is working with Siemens on the infrastructure of the substation, which is being expanded to allow renewable energy sources to connect to the grid.
A statement from the contractor said he died “following injuries sustained in an incident at the Blackhillock substation”.
Very few details have emerged although the man has been confirmed as an employee of BAM Nuttall, which is working in joint venture with Siemens on the major expansion project.
The joint venture is working under a five-year framework for SHE Transmission to upgrade substations in the region.
BAM is responsible for the design and construction of all civil infrastructure including the concrete foundations for electrical equipment substation platforms, and buried services including drainage.
Stephen Fox, chief executive of BAM Nuttall, commented saying : “Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to all of the family, friends and colleagues of our employee, who was involved in this tragic incident.
“We are working closely with all relevant agencies and authorities and a full investigation is under way.”
Colin Nicol, managing director of Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, said: “I would like to express our sincere condolences to the family and all those affected by today’s tragic incident.
“We are offering our full support to Siemens BAM as they liaise with the relevant authorities and commence the investigation.”
