Balfour Beatty worker dies while working on roads

A fatal accident has occurred on a motorway involving a young road worker who was working for Balfour Beatty Surrey police and the HSE have been informed of the accident.
A road worker, who was believed to be aged in his 20s, has died after suffering serious injuries following an “industrial accident” on the southbound side of the motorway this morning just before 10.15am between junction 1 between the Sunbury and junction 2 of the M25.
The circumstances surrounding the death are now being investigated by the local police and the HSE.
A Highways England spokesman said on today: “Every death on our roads is a tragedy and our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of our colleague at Balfour Beatty who died yesterday morning while working on the M3.
“We will work closely with Surrey Police and the Health and Safety Executive on their investigations into this tragic incident.”
The air ambulance from the Eat coast attended the incident, sending an ambulance, ambulance car and the air ambulance, but the man died at the scene.
A Balfour Beatty spokesperson commented: “Yesterday a road worker on our M3 project died as a result of an accident within the roadworks.
“Our deepest sympathies are with our colleague’s family, friends and co-workers at this time.
“We are liaising with Surrey Police and the Heath and Safety Executive to help their investigations and while these continue it would not be appropriate to comment further.”
