Homes for a £1 sees 600 registrations in first day

Liverpool council has reported that its homes for £1 has seen 600 registrations in the first day around 150 homes are to be made available under the scheme ,Altcar Avenue, Childwall Avenue,Britannia Avenue, Dorset Avenue, Bird Street, Richardson Street, Garrick Street, Webster Road and Tunstall Street.

To be considered for the scheme you must live within Liverpool Bough council be a first time buyer and be in paid employment extra priority will be given to those with children and can demonstrate they can provide the funds to renovate the property.

The council have also said there are some funds available to help those who do not meet all of the criteria or do not have the available capital.

Applications for the “Homes for £1” scheme, Deputy Mayor Cllr Ann O’Byrne, commented it was part of the council’s commitment to bring into use another 2,000 neglected properties in addition to the 1,000 already completed and another 1,000 being done at the moment.

Deputy Mayor Cllr Ann O’Byrne said : “Driving up the quality, standard and range of properties in the city is a priority, but we know that Homes for a Pound is not a panacea for dealing with empty homes.

“It is one of a range of things we are doing in partnership with housing associations and developers to make sure that people wanting to live in the city have a choice of good quality properties to live in, whatever their budget.”

There are some stipulations for the scheme those successful applicants will be required to live in the property for at least five years, refurbish the house with an agreed time schedule and comply with the Decent Homes Standard .
