A road A303 to be ripped up after poor quality stone was used

The A303 in Wiltshire which has been resurfaced will need to be replaced because quality of the stone used in the original resurfacing was not good enough and could lift because of the heavy traffic.

The highways agency “Highways England” said it is taking “swift action” to carry out remedial works on the road near Amesbury Cholderton.

The road which was resurfaced last winter which is affected  is a stretch between Countess Roundabout and Cholderton on the A303.

Paul Vosper Highways England project manager commented: “We sincerely apologise to our customers for the disruption these additional works will cause, but it’s vitally important the surfacing on this busy main route is replaced quickly to ensure safe and reliable journeys for many years to come.

“Leaving the surface in place for any longer than necessary could possibly lead to further unplanned problems in the future and further disruption.

“Our suppliers recognise the issues and are working at their own expense to ensure the road is repaired and will provide trouble free use for many years to come.”

Remedial work starts next week on the A303 and will continues until Thursday 18 July.
