Corby man killed while delivering building materials

The man, who worked for Jackson Building Centres in Corby, was making a delivery to a house in Cecil Drive, on the Exeter estate, at about 11am on Tuesday when the incident happened.

Details of the accident have not yet been released. Floral tributes have been left at the scene.

Sandra Foley, who lives in Cecil Drive, delivered a bouquet of flowers to the house yesterday.

She said: “Everyone is really shocked about what happened.

“None of us knew the young man but we are all so sorry.

“We are a tight-knit community here and people have been leaving flowers as a mark of respect.

“I wanted to place a bouquet there too.

“It may be a comfort to his family to know that people are thinking of them.”

One of the cards on flowers left at the scene said: “Rest in peace big man.”

Another simply said: “From well-wishers in Cecil Drive.”

The emergency services and air ambulance were called to Cecil Drive, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road remained cordoned off until about 5pm while the Health and Safety Executive carried out its initial investigations into the accident.

The delivery lorry was removed from Cecil Drive between 6pm and 7pm.

Building materials were being delivered to a house where landscaping is being done in the front garden.

A member of the family who was at home when the accident happened said they were too shocked to talk about the accident.

Another neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “I was at home at the time but I didn’t see what happened.

“It’s very sad and everyone is shocked.”

In a statement, Lyndon Johnson, divisional director at Jackson Building Centres, said: “This is a tragic accident and the shock is felt very deeply by all of us here.

“Our thoughts and sympathies now lie with his family, friends and colleagues.

“We are working closely with the local police, and the Health and Safety Executive have also been notified.

“We will do all we can to help them with their inquiries. We will have more details once a full investigation has been carried out.”
